Were You There?
April 25, 1999
China Club Concert
Well, THE concert has come and gone, and in my view, the wait
was well worth it!
The upstairs room at the China Club was chock full of eager
concert-goers, and Rob certainly did NOT disappoint!
He sang a medley of show tunes, and then some that were not
expected at all! His rendition of "Delilah" was just magic, and
the audience was mesmerized by the tight leather pants that
emphasized Rob's musical versatility.(!) "Northbound Train" from
Civil War was movingly sung, and "Somethings Coming" from
West Side Story was sung after Rob related the story of
the 'zipper', from a recent Friday night Jekyll & Hyde
performance. Rob sang "Twilight" from The Prince and the
Pauper, "Where's the Girl" from Scarlet Pimpernel,
and a wildly exciting "Spinning Wheel." Through it all, one would
not be aware that Rob was not feeling too well.
Christiane Noll and Norm Lewis each did a duet with Rob, and
Mr. Lewis had the house in tears with an amazing rendition of "We
Live on Borrowed Time." Rob's final number was the stirring and
magnificent "Anthem," from Chess.
What more can I say? If you were there, you know my feelings.
If you were not, please make every attempt to attend the next one,
wherever and whenever that will be.
In awe and wonder,
Linda Russak
